Programs

Lighthouse Sunday School

Our Lighthouse Sunday School Program is designed around a rotation workshop model where the children get the same subject presented in different workshops (e.g. Art, Drama, Story Telling, Games, Video, Puppetry, etc.).

We have four basic age groups: 3 & 4 year olds, K & 1st Graders, 2nd & 3rd Graders and 4th & 5th Graders with workshops designed for the appropriate age group.

Lighthouse Sunday School begins shortly after the 10:30 Service begins.

 Youth Program - KOINONIA

Koin (coin) o (oh) nia (knee-a)

Greek term found in New Testament: defined as "fellowship" or "common salvation"

Defined by Webster:  n : Christian fellowship or communion with God or with fellow Christians; said in particular of the early Christian community

We are always looking for more adults and students to join with us as we strive to live out true ‘koinonia.’

Who We Are

The student ministry of FPC is made up of grades 6 - 12 and beyond. We have more than 50 active participants in our youth group, representing 13 schools.

We Believe ...

We believe that youth ministry is best done through relationships and we ask that you prayerfully consider partnering with the youth ministries of KOINONIA and First Presbyterian Church of Monterey.

Sunday MORNINGS

Our Sunday School class meets at 10:30 in room 6. Come join us as we learn, laugh, and listen to what God is calling us to.

FIRESIDE

This is our midweek meetings: High School meets on Tuesdays and Middle School on Wednesdays from 7 - 8:30.  We have a great time playing games, diving into God’s Word, and never fear, there is always a snack.

SUMMER EVENTS

Be watching the vista, weekly bulletin, and our bulletin board for our upcoming events and service projects.  Events range from Movie Nights and Gleaning, to demolition derbies and homeless lunches. We would love to have as many people partner with us as we have fun and live out our faith.

Mother's Morning Out Pre-School

A ministry to our church and community, the program is mainly used by families where one parent is working in the home.  We serve Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Marina, Seaside, Castroville and Salinas.  The program operates from late August to May and also offers a 5-week Summer Program.  The hours are 9:00 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 3:00.  Contact Director Susan DaSilva at 373 - 1067.

Small Groups

Hannah Circle, is a small group of women who meet the 4th Wednesday of each month in different homes for caring, sharing and book discussions.

Presbyterian Women

This group meets the second Wednesday of each month (except July and August) at 10:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall at the church for lunch and a program with a guest speaker.  Becoming aware of our “sisterhood” is a real part of the total church purpose. PW invite others to share in our ministry, send many dollars to mission, and love each other, sharing concerns, prayers, and commitment.  Contact Dorothy Becker (Moderator).

Faith and Fiction

This fun-loving group of avid bookworms meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the lower classroom.  All are welcome to join.

Schooners

We do a pot-Luck supper, a short-simple game (for laughs), and a brief Bible Study. All adults of the congregation are encouraged to join a crew. We have one gathering, port ‘o call, a month and the crew, six or eight members, decide on the best time to get together.  Some meet Friday or Saturday evenings, some meet on a Sunday afternoon. We change crews twice a year, although we are considering remaining with the same crew September through June and beginning again at the Fleet Meeting in late August or early September with the crew exchange. The idea is fellowship, getting acquainted with one another. It is a great way to discover Jesus alive and well in His followers. This is not intended to be a formal study but an opportunity to discuss how a particular scripture speaks to the individuals in the group.
For information or to join a crew call Bettina Hotelling.
