Outreach
Stephen Ministry is a program of our congregation that equips lay people to provide confidential one-on-one Christian care for those who are experiencing a crisis or difficult time. more ...
Steady Job/Steady Life Program
This program helps people get a steady and meaningful job and improve other areas of their lives where they may be having difficulties. Persons accepted for the program are assigned a personal coach who will work intensively with them to achieve specific goals directly related to getting and keeping a good job. To contact the program, visit or call the church office (see our home page).
The role of Presbyterian deacons is to provide sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. We are especially blessed by the activities of our deacons, some of which are:
Support of our church's participation in I-Help (The Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program) |
weekly flower delivery to ill or homebound persons and the Friendly Visitors program |
the management of our ushers and greeters |
the activities of our Congregational Care Committee |
special fund raisers for financing community needs and much more |
PG Convalescent Hospital Worship Service
On the second and fifth Sundays of each month, we lead worship from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Pacific Grove Convalescent Hospital, 200 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove.
Prayer Chain
Several prayer chains are kept current and consist of members who are available to pray for people in need of intercessory prayer. Requests are communicated via e-mail and/or phone; we welcome those interested to join.
The mission focus for this month is not on a single individual, but an entire family . . . Jim and Jodi McGill live in Mzuzu, Malawi, Africa with their four adoptive children: Michael, Jason, Salome and Selina. Malawi is a relatively small, landlocked country bordered by Tanzania to the north and Mozambique to the south. The population of Malawi is 80% Christian, including 400,000 Presbyterians. (This a higher percentage of Presbyterians than here in the United States!) Along with many other African countries, Malawi shares the problems of poverty, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. It is in these fields that Jim and Jodi McGill are working and are having much success.
Salinas Valley Outreach
During every Christmas season, the church provides food and gifts via this deacons program to families in the Salinas Valley, working closely with an Hispanic church to identify needy recipients. We donate money, help with the collection, packing, wrapping and delivery of gifts and food.
Hospital Visitation
Pastor Jay Bartow has served since 1995 as a volunteer chaplain at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. In addition, Chris Williams, one of our associate pastors, is the full-time chaplain of the Hospital. Our congregation has an active program of visitation for those we know are hospitalized. Our worship service flowers are routinely distributed among persons who are hospitalized or homebound.
